How to be an explorer of the world

Challenge number one: ‘Look around and notice 10 things you would never have seen before’.

While sitting on the train, there are a lot of things I can see. But in some strange way, I never notice them. Mostly when I’m sitting in the train it’s 07:30 in the morning or around 17:30 in the afternoon. Both moments I’m almost always tired. In the morning because I wanted to sleep longer, and in the afternoon because I had a long day at school. So focussing on little details isn’t something that I do at those moments. But now I am!

While looking outside I mostly saw many, many bushes. Uncountable, I guess. But I also saw signs, next to the railroads. There were numbers on it. I don’t have any clue what they mean, but I’m sure it is necessary for the driver of this train.

Also, inside the train I saw a couple of interesting things. First, on the windows. There are stickers with images on them. Next to my seat is a sticker with a man, sitting in a chair (the same chair I’m sitting on I guess) reading his book, listening to music (there is a headphone) and using his laptop (so thin it’s a Macbook I guess). Very interesting and I never noticed them before.

While looking up (where else can I look?) I saw lamps (I really never noticed them, how silly?). Also, next to the lamps there were little holes in the ceiling which I think are little speakers for the announcements coming from the driver of this train.

Well, there is a lot of graffiti around us, but I never noticed graffiti is actually everywhere. All the walls outside are covered with it. I don’t know if I like it or not. I think some people should do it and a lot of people don’t. Because well, not everyone can do it that good.

Have you ever seen cars on the railroads? Well, I didn’t. No BMW’s or something, but railroad-cars. Very interesting, never noticed them.

”Mirror, mirror on the..’’. Nope, actually on the ceiling. That’s a shame! But why are they there? Just for it’s looks or do they have an actual purpose? I’m curious.

Next to the railroads, I saw a farm. Or a barn. However, what is it doing there? Are there actually people living there? I don’t think I’ll ever find out.

Yes, got another one! On the chairs, there are hangers attached to it. Really handy when you want to dump your jacket for a while. I never noticed them. I don’t know if I would use them, but who knows. The future is still empty, right?

And the last thing I saw was a little speaker next to the seat of the person in front of me. Interesting…

Well, this train trip wasn’t what I expected. Usually I just look outside (and only see like a thousand bushes) but this time it was different. Really focusing isn’t something I normally do (while sitting on the train) but this time I did and it was kind of refreshing. Looking at things from another angle keeps you sharp, I think.

I don’t think I will focus on new things while looking outside the next time. The time I spend on the train is precious (40 minutes of sleep is like two power naps) so I think I’ll close my eyes the next time anyways. I don’t regret this train trip. But sleeping, yes.. Do I need to say more? ;)
