Recently, something special happened on the Amsterdam Fashion Week.
What is it? There was a show, made by designer Duran Lantink and photographer Jan Hoek. They made a show inspired by transsexworkers in Cape town. In the show genderless garments were shown, worn by transgenders and androgynes. The garments were made from other garments, like shoes. For an example, there was a pair of shoes made out of 2 old Nike-shoes. How awesome is that? And the most important part of the clothes: they were genderless!
Why is it cool? I think this fashion show is something awesome for multiple reasons. I think it’s a good thing that in this fashion show transgenders and androgyne people are being put at the center of it. Being transgender isn’t something to be ashamed of anymore nowadays, but It has been different back in the days. I think it’s important to light out different kind of people, with all different identity’s. So there’s a big change going on, I think. And fashion shows like these are a great example of that, of the trend 'Shifting Identities’. Being who you are is something to be proud of nowadays. I agree!
