TONNING

‘A place to play old-fashioned games, because this modern world needs a little vintage’.

What is it? When I was in Amsterdam, visiting the red light district, I went to the TON TON club. When I went in, I immediately felt like I was visiting the 80’s. There were lots of game machines so I thought that was really fun.

In the TON TON club was also a typical ‘ballenbak’ (room full of balls). We had a talk with an employee of the TON TON club and he told us how the TON TON club has been originated. The owner of the TON TON club thought Amsterdam (and especially the red light district) had too little ‘chill’ spots. The TON TON club was build to give people time to relax and also quality time with their friends. Also at the TON TON club it’s only possible to drink alcohol (cute Japanese beers for example). Why? To increase the chill-level.

Why is it cool? I think the TON TON club is a place one should have been, because it gives you a full chill-experience. It can also be related to the living room society trend. It’s not like other cafe’s or bars where you’re being served by waiters and act like a guest. At the TON TON club, it’s like your in your own crib playing games and rolling in the room full of balls.
