The last meal

I think we all know the 'Last Meal' story from Jesus Christ. He had his friends over and drank wine and ate some bread. The wine was supposed to be his blood and the bread his body. I always felt a bit strange about his last meal, because: last meal. That's horrible right? Knowing you will never eat again after that meal, because you will simply die?

What is it? Henry Hargreaves recently has been photographing the last meal of people who are on Death Row (a jail where you will die). He made multiple pictures, because every person on Death Row wanted another last meal, off course.

Why is it cool? I'm not sure what Henry Hargreaves made is 'cool', because I think it's awful to see what people eat before they will die. But I think it's a good thing people are getting insights in the last meals. It can really have impact on people, because there are really strange meals. For example, one man had just one olive. I immediately begin to think then that he has some strange plans or something. Because why order one olive if it's your last meal? So strange!

It really got me thinking about who those people would be, because you only get to see the meals, and some information about the person but not a picture or something. So I immediately begin to picture a person in my head, but I think it's still strange. I can't get clear about it. I think this photo reportage fits into the trend 'The Open World' because this is actually literally the open world: you will get to see the meals of people who will be excecuted.. I think it's going quite far, the open world. Nice to see what people are doping at the moment, but seeing this kind of creepy things makes me wonder if the internet has to stay. I find this photo reportage very impressive, but I'm not sure I would want to get THIS much information. It's just quite sad, I think.
